I think I hit the snooze button at least 7 times this morning. I'm glad my roommate is a heavy sleeper. I'm also finding out that john at Jim's deli is one of the most accommodating food people that I have met since I got out there. He always seems to know exactly what we are missing or needing.
I also have realized that everyone seems to know everyone through some random channel of working a tour, at a university, or through some party they attended.
Three more days of spot op-ing, then I will be back to company management intern land till change over or someone else needs to be replaced.
Lastly, we are having an office party tonight. I will be there with coffee mug in hand to enjoy the delicious dishes. I will make a point to not use the phrase, which has been burned into my head 'Cheers to the beers'.
I enjoy my job, but I did not get enough sleep last night to be wide awake today.
I did get breakfast/lunch and get to basically sit around and play with flashlights during the rehearsal. I think that this job has made me somewhat humble and I appreciate not being on the top of the food chain for once in a long time.
We get another intern to shadow spot #1 tonight and its press night. Nothing like training in new people.
After a long day of laying down carpet and driving to the airport once today, I get to drive out to JFK international and pick someone up at midnight. I cannot complain because I got a delicious dinner and my boss drew a heart around my name on my resume while they were interviewing me by phone.
I woke up at 10:00 AM this morning to the alarm in the next room. I laid in bed till about 11:30, then I got the strength to get up and eat some apple sauce. Washed it down with an energy drink and was 10 minutes early to work.
I proceeded to sit in a chair hearing the history of gateway through a flurry of names and events. It was a bit overwhelming, but I basically followed her train of thought. I then went to drop off a food order with Erin's assistant. We talked on the car ride and showed me the basics of the town: the bar, deli, and theatre in the next town.
A sandwich and a drink were $11 even. I will be making my food on my own for now. I also got my palm pilot working, and am now able to digitize everything I need to do. My day planner is scheduled out through Wednesday.
We proceeded to get back and I ended up unpacking much of my room: Nintendo wii, clothes, and a few bottles. It makes me think of being back in the boy scouts, but with more drinking and less backpacks.
I made myself a dinner of rice, beans, and some special butter. It has been a good day/night of working. I feel as though I am going to enjoy working here a lot.
I am sitting at my desk currently with a PBR in hand while I am typing this.
As I went to turn in my paper today for my Non-profit accounting paper, I came to the conclusion that all the accounting majors in my class are completely insane.
My paper was about 6 pages long with a diagram in it. The teacher said 'just set it on the stack'. She then pointed to a stack about 9 inches high worth of paper. They were bound and each was about 1-2 inches thick. What the hell? This is for a one credit class.
I was already hungover, so I just gave her my paper and said 'Denise, I respect your time and feel that all that was not necessary. Please understand that when grading.'
I'm guessing most of the people that read this know me, but I have been getting visitors from all over the world lately. You should look at the map when you scroll all the way down the map. It pinpoints where a person is visiting my blog from and I have a lot of random marks on the page.
As a side note, when you visit my page, you should add yourself to the map with a picture/email because I would really appreciate it, and it would not just be a bunch of dots on a may. I will add myself tonight.
My house has no electricity now. They really weren't joking when they said they would cut it off. I figured since I only have 14 days until I actually have to leave this town I love to call home for the east coast, they weren't going to get to me that quickly, but they did.
I just have one word for the electricity company.... Meh
You were just doing your job. I understand. I have a lantern and who really needs electricity when you sleep? A fridge? Buffet line at the grocery store. Cooking food? They didn't shut off my gas, so screw 'em. This is the second time this has happened to me, so I'm not surprised.
I made a really cool litho print of a picture from the bodega downtown. This is just a placeholder to give you an idea. I am making a 2 image panoramic with some love put into it. I am also putting together 3 different picture with Photoshop in order to get some good experience and say that I accomplished something this semester in my photography class.
I also have made a lot of headway with my photography project. I have an opening shot and a 3rd of it basically edited out. I am doing an odd way of editing I've never tried before. I like to call it 'cut and fuck'. You basically take all your footage, and grind it out. Sync up your audio, and just make cuts accordingly.
Here is a photo of the opening scene.
I also want to say that I heart my friends as well. I was feeling crappy this morning, and then I looked at my phone. I had two text messages from last night.
The first said "Are you coming to the show tonight?" Oops, my bad. I forgot.
The second said "Your book smells like grape juice." I don't know why that's funny, but it is.
There is nothing like faking an interrogation for a directing scene, in which you have to water torture a man, slap him around, and break him down to the point of crying. This is what the room looked like. It was a mixture of Reservoir Dogs plus a mystery.
I fear for the worst when I have killed 17 of their brothers and sisters in the last few weeks. The raves are getting smaller but more intense. They are now doing circles in the ceilings and being more defiant. Above is a picture of one of them that was taunting me earlier today.
I feel as though I am being stalked. They are getting smarter as well. I found a trap pushed to the center of my kitchen from where I placed it.
Lastly, I have callouses that are starting to develop. They replaced the wooden tube with 3 PVC pipes, which raised the weight of the drop by 20 pounds. Its exactly 19 pulls to get it to height.
I was awoke this morning from a call from Tanya at Utah Festival Orchestra. She informed me that UFOC wanted to schedule an interview with me tomorrow at 10:15 AM. I had been holding out for a call from Erin at the Gateway Playhouse on Long Island. I did not want to put all my eggs in one basket and scheduled the interview. It was for a marketing job that I found on Backstage jobs a few weeks ago when I was sending my resume out to 2 theatres a week (I'd like to call that my short-lived summer crisis). I really wasn't too focused on it because I sent them my resume in march, and had yet to really hear a response from them. I then went and illegally parked my car in the school lot and went to stagecraft where we learned about drafting and how to read it.
I then made my way home to find food and a tape I needed for videotaping some primates for my digital media class. Who calls... Erin.
The conversation went something to this affect:
E: Hi is this Ryan? R: Yes, How may I help you? E: We've been talking at the office about summer positions and after your interview on Friday, we want you to work for us...
I was happy, ecstatic about the opportunity to work for a company that is "Long Island's only professional Music theatre company" and they have a pool on the premises.
Here's a google earth image of it. Its an hour from New York City and its IN THE HAMPTONS, so that is also entertaining.
With Easter passing, and Jesus not dead anymore, I just want to throw out a Hazzah for Jesus. Thanks for letting us drink in your name (WWJD - What Would Jesus Drink) on friday and eat lots of batter-fried fish. Its not often I celebrate holidays as hard as this one (April Fools day, New Years, St. Patricks, April 20th) but let me tell you, it was a good one. Just as a last jab to remind all those who were at the passover party last year, I will just throw this one out of someone who can't hold their Jesus AKA Boon's Farm.
Moving forward, I want everyone to go out and find some Evol Intent, Ewun, Mayhem, or Roni Size. I've been doing alot of personal searching for music as of late and come to the conclusion that Drum and Bass is about to break wide open to a point where you will be forced to notice it. Evol is coming out with a full length album this fall and it will be sick from what i've heard.
I will leave you with this closing line: "They see me rolling, they are hating, controling, they are trying to catch me riding dirty"
Due to the fact that a close friend is having this rave at his property, I find it quite fitting that I should help to promote it in a tasteful manner that is not only helpful but also insightful to the fruition of this party on May 5Th.
First, this property is gorgeous. Its spacious with many lakes and room for camping. There has been debate on how many stages, but its looking like 3-4 plus a chill room. I think that this will be a great start to the party season. A full description of all the DJs and everything else can be found here.
I want to get this one in because if you have read my last posting, I might be on Long Island for the summer. If that does end up going down, you can imagine that I will be representing WI partying to the east coast. They don't even know how we kick it.
Secondly, Addict Records is having their 10 year anniversary party on May 4th at the Inferno in Madison. This should be a treat with DOORMOUSE/ Anonymous, Stunt Rock, J-Slim, AbleCain, Gein, and Hypnoassasin. So basically, EVERYONE I LOVE.
This is a must field trip as well. Let me know if you want to hit up either one of these. email@example.com. much love.
I decided to spend some time today working on my music production and came to the conclusion that I have obsessive compulsive disorder with the following:
1) Checking my email/phone (I heard it ring at least 10 times today) 2) editing music till its finished
I will take them in order.
1. I went to school twice today, once to check my email after waking up because I have no Internet/cable at my house and then again after I found some Evol Intent MP3s on my removable hard drive that I did not know existed. I need to clean this out more because I keep finding music. I also have come to the conclusion that I have more music than I think I will ever need. I find a new song that I do not know that I have about once a day. Getting back to the email thing, I did find out that I have an interview tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. with a theatre that produces musicals out in Bellport, NY. The pay isn't the greatest, but its close to another theatre also on Long Island.
My phone has started doing this thing where I think it will be ringing/vibrating when in actuality, I am just crazy.
2. The second time I went to school, I started editing some music together because I might be spinning at a rave thats in early may, but who knows if that will happen. I spent 4 hours going over random music and came up with 2 five minute mixes. You can listen to them Here.
This is my first post, and hopefully not my last. I've decided to become a 'blogger' and take my anxiety towards whatever out in a more therapeutic way than drinking my problems under the table. With that said, I state the following:
With easter as close as it is, I am reminded of a photo that I made last year. I find it to be something to reflect on spring and the holiday season.
On a lighter note, I think the mice have taken over my apartment and are planning a rave in my ceiling or plotting to kill me in my sleep. I heard about 20 of them this morning making their daily rounds of scampering, scouring, and making general noise to let me know its morning.
